BHP Spinifex Village
Surveys Australia was awarded a contract by Thiess to carry out all required Survey works for the successful execution of the Bulk Earthworks and installation of underground services packages. Surveys Australia also carried out all Survey works for Ausco Modular for the construction of the new Spinifex village facilities. The village is a 1700 person camp and represents the most modern of facilities at its time of construction.
BHP Billiton Yandi Mine has been home to several of Surveys Australia crews since August 2008. Surveys Australia was contracted to Thiess, Ausco Modular, Monodelphous and Laing O’Rourke Constructions. Surveys Australia works consisted of all survey requirements for all SMP activities, set out and constriction of the new village, bulk earthworks of the entire site and set out of all civil activities. All works completed needed to be captured on state of the art as-built which Surveys Australia prides itself on. Surveys Australia remained on site until July 2011.
Surveys Australia was contracted to carry out works on multiple fronts across the projects which consisted of SMP, bulk earth works and civil construction. Fortescue Metal Group has created the Cloudbreak Mine into their flagship in an incredibly short amount of time. Their Iron Ore processing network is equal to both Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton in neighbouring regions of the Pilbara.
Rio Tinto Argyle Underground Project
Surveys Australia was contracted by both Tenix and Killarnee Civil and Concrete to carry out all associated SMP and Civil components within each companies individuals packages. Surveys Australia’s works scope consisted of all setout responsibilities for the: Construction/Installation of two new underground crushing facilities, kilometres of conveyor and dewatering facilities, as well as all associated workshops for the power supply and flood dam facilities of the mine site. Large amounts of concrete foundations were formed and poured along with additional survey required for the construction of all the remaining underground material handling infrastructure as well as other facilities required for the block cave mining. We maintained a crew of 9 Survey Staff for this Project.
These contracted works required significant survey set out and modelling not to mention the added factor of works being carried out almost 1 kilometre underground and the mine still being in full operation. Contract commenced Nov 2011 and completed Feb 2013.
